BEST BAKERY

Hey guys! something a bit different today, for mothers day this year (i know it was over a week ago, i'm a bit behind on this ha ha!) we went to a lovely little cafe in Helmseley. The cafe was called 'Castlegate Cafe and Bakery'. we had a lovely lunch and then, for desert, i had the most delicious lemon cake!

Defiantly recommend this cafe, as all the cakes are hand baked by the owner!

MEATBALLS AND EASY TOMATO SAUCE

Meatballs and tomato and basil sauce served on tagliatelle

Ingredients:
for the sauce:
1 onion
1 clove of garlic
1 or 2 tins of chopped tomatoes
1 beef or chicken stock cube
1 fresh chilli or 1 teaspoon of ground chilli
1 tablespoon tomato puree
Fresh basil

For the meatballs:
500g minced beef (make sure it's not horse!)
1 chilli
1 lemon
2 slices of stale bread
1 clove of garlic

For the meatballs:

Step 1 - blitz your bread in a food processor to make bread crumbs

Step 2 - chop your garlic and chilli, grate the zest of your lemon and then add it all to a bowl with the mince and breadcrumbs

Step 3 - mix together with your hands, until it is all together in one ball

Step 4 - shape into small balls with your hands, make sure their all pretty similar in size so they will cook at the same time!

For the sauce:
Step 1 - chop the onion, then add to a pan with a little oil on a medium heat

Step 2 - whilst the onion is softening, chop your garlic and chilli (don't forget to keep stirring the onion or it will burn) then add them to the onion

Step 3 - cook the onion garlic and chilli together for a little while, then add the tinned tomatoes and stock cube

Step 4 - season with a little salt and pepper

Step 5 - bring the sauce to the boil, then leave to simmer with the lid on for about 10 - 20 mins or until the onion is fully cooked

Step 6 - serve on past or add the meatballs to the sauce

step 7 - leave alone until meatballs are cooked, add chopped basil and then serve on pasta ( i like tagliatelle best for this recipe)
